New US Ambassador to Jordan presents credentials, looks to strengthen ties

Jordan Daily – Yael Lempert , the new US Ambassador to Jordan formally presented her credentials to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Monday.

In a statement , Ambassador Lempert expressed her eagerness to enhance the ties between the United States and Jordan.

“I am deeply honored to serve as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. I look forward to further strengthening the strategic US-Jordan partnership,” she stated.

Having built a distinguished career within the US Senior Foreign Service, Lempert, a Minister-Counselor, was nominated by President Biden for the role of US Ambassador to Jordan on January 3, 2023.

The confirmation of her nomination came from the US Senate on July 27, after which she was officially sworn into her ambassadorial position by Vice President Kamala Harris on August 10.

Lempert’s extensive background in diplomatic service includes notable positions such as Acting Assistant Secretary and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs. She assumed the role of Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in London from January to July 2021, following her service as Deputy Chief of Mission for two years.

She was also Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Egypt and North Africa from June 2017 to December 2018, and the Senior Director for the Levant, Israel, and Egypt at the National Security Council from 2014 to 2017.

A native of Ithaca, NY, Lempert’s academic background includes undergraduate and graduate degrees from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. Her exemplary service has earned her multiple State Department Superior and Meritorious Honor awards. She was recognized with a Presidential Rank Award in 2019, and in 2017, she received the National Security Council’s Outstanding Service Award.

With her wealth of experience and commitment to diplomacy, Ambassador Yael Lempert is set to play a pivotal role in furthering the strong relationship between the United States and Jordan.
