Jordan Daily – Israeli media reported that there are no new proposals or negotiations regarding Gaza, as the Israeli military prepares for the next phase of its operation in the Strip.
The first phase of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal between Palestinian factions and Israel, brokered by Egypt and Qatar with U.S. support, ended on February 1. The agreement had been in effect since January 19, 2025.
While Hamas adhered to the first phase, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who faces international legal scrutiny, backed away from the second phase under pressure from hardliners in his coalition, according to Israeli media.
Recent reports suggested that Egypt proposed a deal to release five Israeli hostages in Gaza in exchange for a two-month ceasefire, renewed humanitarian aid, and the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.
However, Maariv newspaper cited an unnamed Israeli official denying any such proposal had reached Israeli authorities through mediators, stating: “There is no progress in negotiations- there are no negotiations at all. Israel is preparing for the next phase of its military operation in Gaza.”
