Jordan Daily – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) celebrated the successful implementation of the “Improving the Management and Operation System & the Collaborative Management of the Aqaba Marine Reserve Ecosystem” initiative.

This project, funded by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Amman, marks a significant step forward in supporting Jordan’s marine conservation efforts.

The initiative focused on enhancing the management and operational frameworks of the Aqaba Marine Reserve, promoting biodiversity, and fostering stronger community involvement. This project is a testament to Jordan’s commitment to protecting its marine resources while aligning with broader goals of sustainable development.

During the event, UNDP highlighted the importance of adopting comprehensive, evidence-based strategies that integrate natural resource conservation with economic growth and livelihood improvement. The organization emphasized that partnerships with governments, international donors, UN agencies, multilateral development banks, and the private sector are essential to achieving these objectives.

Espen Lindbæck, the Ambassador of Norway to Jordan and Iraq, expressed his satisfaction with the outcomes of the project. In remarks shared on the social media platform X, he noted: “A significant milestone was marked today with UNDP – Jordan, ASEZA, and Norway. Delighted to be part of the project closing event and to learn of the important achievements for advanced management systems, enhanced biodiversity, and strengthened community bonds at the Aqaba Marine Reserve.”
