Jordan Daily – The Jordanian Society of Endocrinology , Diabetes and Metabolism in collaboration with the Diabetes Center at Prince Hamza Hospital organized a conference titled ” Diabetes Update: 100th Anniversary of the discovery of Insulin 2021 .
The conference which came on the occasion of World Diabetes Day 2021 , saw the presence of the Acting President of Jordan Medical Association (JMA) Dr. Mohammad Rasool Tarawneh , the Royal Medical Services Director , Dr. Yusef Zureikat and Prof. Fawaz Abdulhaq Al-Zboun, President of the Hashemite University , Sami Abdallat JMA’s Acting Secretary -General ,among other representatives from various medical sectors in the Kingdom .
Dr. Elham Khreisat, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health for Administrative and Technical Affairs said that the ministry is moving forward with its strategies and plans, benefiting from the studies that have been developed to provide comprehensive health services for patients with diabetes.
Khreisat indicated that there are many specialized centers for the treatment of patients with diabetes and its complications , especially the Diabetes Center at Prince Hamzah Hospital, which provides treatment services, training and rehabilitation for medical, nursing and technical cadres specialized in the field of diabetes and diabetic foot, in addition to clinics for diabetes patients.
Mowaffaq Al-Hiyari, President of the Diabetes Center at the Prince Hamza Hospital stated the Center has been approved by Jordanian Medical Board to train doctors in the endocrinology and diabetes programs as of the beginning of next year, adding that the Center seeks to establish a training institute that enables students to obtain a diploma and Masters in Endocrinology and Diabetes.
For his part, the President of the Jordanian Society of Endocrinology , Diabetes and Metabolism , Dr. Abdul Karim Al-Khawaldeh, said that : over the course of two days, a group of diabetes specialists and experts from inside and outside the Kingdom will speak, and address the latest scientific findings for the treatment of diabetes patients and its complications for the benefit of all doctors from various medical specialties.
Dr. Munther Al-Momani , Chairman of the scientific committee of the conference said that the scientific program includes 23 lectures distributed over 6 scientific sessions, including a session devoted to nursing as a workshop for diabetes education, adding that the conference sessions will discuss the latest scientific developments related to the spread, diagnosis and treatment of diabetes, its complications and associated diseases.
The first day of the conference included five scientific lectures : Founder and Director of Stem Cell Therapy Center at the University of Jordan ,Prof.Abdallah Awidi talked about Diabetes and stem cell, where do we stand?, the second lecture tackled Achieving control with Insulin in people with type 2 diabetes , by Prof. Munther Momani , Glycemic control and beyond ” Dapagliflozin” by MD Rashad Nassar , MD Nahla Khawaja touched upon the early use of SGLT2i in Cardiorenal Metabolic Risk Management of T2d Patients while Prof. Kausik Ray had his take via video link on the Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Diseases ,Current and Emerging Therapies.
A medical exhibition was opened on the sidelines of the conference for a number of local and international pharmaceutical companies that sponsored and supported the work of the conference.
