Jordan Daily – HRH Prince Mired bin Raad, Lord Chamberlain and President of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD), made an unannounced visit to Al Karama Mental Health Center to assess services provided to people with mental and intellectual disabilities.
Prince Mired met with the center’s director, Dr. Bandar Sultan, who outlined several challenges facing the facility. These include a shortage of specialized staff and outdated medical and rehabilitation equipment. Sultan also highlighted the need for upgrades to therapy rooms, laboratories, sleeping facilities, and general infrastructure.
The director raised concerns over some families abandoning their relatives at the center, complicating reintegration efforts.
Prince Mired stressed the importance of enhancing service quality and called for coordinated action among authorities to ensure a safe and dignified rehabilitation environment for persons with disabilities.
The visit aligns with HCD’s efforts to monitor the performance of specialized institutions and address obstacles limiting access to quality care, the HCD said in a statement.
