Jordan Daily – Russian President Vladimir Putin described Tuesday’s high-level talks between Russia and the U.S. in Riyadh as a “first step” toward normalizing relations between Moscow and Washington.
Speaking to reporters in St. Petersburg on Wednesday, Putin expressed hope the talks would lead to cooperation in areas such as arms control, space exploration, and energy.
Putin criticized the European Union and Kiev’s response to the talks as unwarranted, stressing that the goal of the meeting was to restore U.S.-Russia ties without the need for “intermediaries.”
He praised the discussions and highlighted potential areas of collaboration, including the Middle East, particularly the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and Syria, as well as economic and energy cooperation.
The Ukraine conflict remains a key issue for both sides, Putin noted.
