Jordan Daily – Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) recorded a 17.4% increase in passenger traffic in 2023, reaching 9.2 million people, the airport operator said on Monday.
The airport also handled more aircraft movements and cargo than in 2022, according to a statement sent to Jordan Daily from Airport International Group (AIG), which manages QAIA.
In December, QAIA received 643,048 passengers and 5,582 aircraft movements, down from 2022 levels due to the political unrest in the Gaza Strip and West Bank. However, cargo traffic rose by 30.4% to 6,434 tons.
AIG said it achieved its record figures thanks to its collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Jordan Tourism Board to expand its airline and destination networks.
In 2023, new and renewed direct routes via QAIA were introduced by local, regional and international airlines, raising the total number of scheduled destinations to 81. AIG also established partnerships with new airlines operating via QAIA.
“We are grateful to our grantor – the Government of Jordan – official authorities and partners for their support. Without them, this feat would not have been possible,” AIG CEO Nicolas Deviller noted.
