Queen Alia Airport sees passenger traffic return to normal

Jordan Daily – Passenger traffic at Queen Alia International Airport has returned to normal levels following recent regional tensions, the country’s Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission said.

Chairman Haitham Misto said Thursday that passenger numbers are rising steadily, with 25,000 travelers recorded on Monday- just 3% below the airport’s daily average.

He expects further increases as several airlines resume operations to and from Jordan. Currently, 28 major carriers operate flights to the kingdom, most of which have returned, with others gradually resuming service.

Roughly 55% of passengers travel between Jordan and Saudi Arabia, Iraq, the UAE, Egypt, and Turkey – routes operating normally, according to Misto.

Gulf airlines in particular restored flights last week, and Qatar Airways announced Monday the full resumption of services to Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria, following the lifting of regional airspace restrictions.

The Qatari carrier said it will resume its full schedule to Queen Alia International Airport and Lebanon’s Rafic Hariri International Airport, and restart flights to five cities in Iraq. Service to Syria will resume on July 6.
