Jordan Daily – Khaled Al-Akkad, Deputy Head of Foodstuff Traders Association, reported that the local market is well-stocked with fresh and chilled imported red meats, despite low demand and global shipping disruptions.
The suspension of maritime shipping in the Red Sea has prompted the shift to air freight for meat imports, particularly those with limited shelf lives, Al-Akkad explained to the JordanNews Agency. Consequently, red meats are being flown in from African countries , India, and Australia.
The change in transportation method has led to a price surge in the Jordanian market, with air freight charges increasing by $3 per kilogram, impacting the overall cost of meat, he added.
