Republic of Korea supports WFP’s food assistance for vulnerable refugees in Jordan

Jordan Daily – The Republic of Korea contributed  $1.5 million to the UN World Food Programme (WFP) in Jordan to support its refugee response.

In a signing ceremony held on February 6, attended by Kim Pil-woo, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, and Alberto Correia Mendes, WFP Representative and Country Director in Jordan, Ambassador Kim reiterated the Korean government’s commitment to WFP’s life-saving efforts for refugees.

“Since 2011, Korea has contributed over $32 million for refugees in Jordan through various international organizations, including WFP. This contribution is a reminder of the Korean government’s unwavering commitment and consistent support for WFP’s efforts,” Pil-wooo said in a statement.

This contribution will enable WFP to continue providing cash assistance- at reduced level – for one month to 60,000 vulnerable refugees in camps and host communities across Jordan.

WFP currently supports 310,000 refugees in Jordan with cash-based assistance to help meet their basic food needs, the majority of whom are Syrians, the statement noted.
