Russia accuses U.S. and NATO of backing Ukrainian incursion into Kursk region

Jordan Daily – Former Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said that Kiev’s recent large-scale incursion into Russian territory would not have occurred without the support and approval of Washington and NATO.

His remarks come in response to the largest Ukrainian attack on Russian soil since the conflict began in February 2022, which took place in the Kursk Region last week.

In an interview with the newspaper *Izvestia* published on Friday, Patrushev asserted that the U.S. government’s denial of involvement in the operation does not align with reality. He alleged that Kiev would not have dared to undertake such actions without direct support from the West.

“The U.S. leadership’s claims of non-involvement in Kiev’s actions in the Kursk Region do not correspond to reality,” Patrushev stated. “Without their participation and direct support, Kiev would not have ventured into Russian territory.”

Patrushev, who is also an adviser to President Vladimir Putin and has recently been appointed to oversee Russia’s global maritime strategy, accused NATO countries of placing a “criminal junta” at the helm of Ukraine. He further claimed that Western nations have provided Kiev with weapons, military instructors, continuous intelligence, and control over neo-Nazi forces in the country.

The Ukrainian advance into the Kursk Region was reportedly halted by Russian forces, but the situation remains tense. Local authorities have reported that at least 12 civilians were killed, 121 wounded, and more than 120,000 residents were forced to evacuate as a result of the incursion.

Patrushev described the attack as a “criminal action” that reflects the “imminent collapse of the neo-Nazi Kiev regime.” He further argued that the Ukrainian population is suffering as the U.S. allegedly uses the country as a “military anti-Russian project.”
