Russia summons US Ambassador over Ukraine’s use of American missiles in Sevastopol attack

Jordan Daily – The Russian Foreign Ministry summoned U.S. Ambassador Lynne Tracy on Monday after Ukraine used American-supplied ATACMS missiles in an attack on the Crimean peninsula, which resulted in numerous civilian casualties.

In a statement, the ministry condemned the Ukrainian shelling of Sevastopol on Sunday as “a new bloody crime by the Kiev regime patronized and armed by Washington.” The attack involved five ATACMS missiles armed with cluster munitions, which are banned in more than 100 countries, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

Four missiles were reportedly destroyed mid-air, while a fifth veered off course and detonated over Sevastopol, killing four people, including two children, and injuring over 150.

Russian officials accused the United States of “waging a hybrid war against Russia” by supplying Ukraine with advanced weaponry, including the ATACMS missiles. The ministry asserted that American military specialists were involved in planning the missile strike, thereby sharing responsibility for the attack.

Ambassador Tracy was warned that U.S. actions in supporting Ukrainian strikes deep inside Russian territory would not go unpunished, with Moscow claiming that Washington is encouraging the continuation of hostilities by the Ukrainian authorities, the ministry noted.
