Russia’s military recruitment surges amid ongoing conflict in Ukraine

Jordan Daily – Nearly 200,000 individuals have enlisted in the Russian army this year, the Russian Defense Ministry announced on Thursday. The average recruitment rate is approximately 1,000 new soldiers per day, according to a statement posted on the ministry’s Telegram channel.

This surge in enlistment follows Russia’s extensive recruitment campaign, initiated after Moscow began its military operation in Ukraine in February 2022.

President Vladimir V. Putin stated last month that around 700,000 Russian troops are currently deployed in Ukraine. In recent months, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Western media have suggested that Russia is preparing for a second wave of mobilization. The first wave, announced in September 2022, aimed to call up an additional 300,000 soldiers.

However, during an event in St. Petersburg last month, President Putin asserted that there is no need for another mobilization wave beyond the regular draft.
