Jordan Daily – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi held talks on Wednesday with Palestinian Vice President Hussein Al Sheikh in Amman to discuss efforts to stabilise the Gaza ceasefire and accelerate humanitarian aid delivery, the Foreign Ministry said.
The meeting, attended by Director of the General Intelligence Department (GID) Maj. Gen. Ahmad Husni and Head of the Palestinian General Intelligence Major General Majid Faraj, focused on implementing the ceasefire agreement, launching its second phase, and opening a political path toward a lasting peace based on the two-state solution.
Safadi and Al Sheikh stressed the need for coordinated efforts to complete the first phase of the agreement and move forward in line with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. They reaffirmed that Gaza is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territories and must be included in any future Palestinian state.
The two officials expressed appreciation for U.S. President Donald Trump’s role in helping achieve the ceasefire, his proposal to rebuild Gaza, prevent displacement, and support peace efforts, as well as his opposition to the annexation of the West Bank.
They also praised Egypt and Qatar for their mediation efforts and condemned the Israeli Knesset’s preliminary approval of draft laws seeking to impose sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and legitimise illegal settlements.
Safadi and Al Sheikh welcomed the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion urging Israel to uphold international law and facilitate aid, reaffirming their commitment to efforts for an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
