Safadi, Araghchi discuss rising tensions in Gaza and West Bank

Jordan Daily – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, had a phone call on Friday with Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi.

During the call, Safadi congratulated Araghchi on his new role and discussed several pressing regional issues, with a particular focus on the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza and the escalating tensions in the occupied West Bank and the broader region.

Safadi emphasized that halting Israel’s military actions in Gaza is crucial as the first step towards de-escalating the dangerous situation in the region and preventing it from spiraling into a full-scale regional war.

The two ministers also reviewed bilateral relations and underscored the importance of maintaining an open and transparent dialogue to address outstanding issues and strengthen cooperation based on mutual respect.

The conversation followed up on discussions Safadi had with Iran’s Acting Foreign Minister, Ali Bagheri Kani, during his visit to Tehran on August 4, 2024.

The ministers agreed to meet on the sidelines of the upcoming United Nations General Assembly next month.
