Shahram Dabiri dismissed as Iranian President’s deputy over controversial Antarctica trip

Jordan Daily – Shahram Dabiri, the Iranian president’s deputy for parliamentary affairs, was dismissed from his position following backlash over an extravagant trip to Antarctica.

In a decree issued on Saturday, President Masoud Pezeshkian criticized the trip, stating that it violated the administration’s commitment to sincerity and justice.

The trip, which took place amid ongoing economic hardships faced by the Iranian people, was deemed incompatible with the values of modesty and frugality that the government aims to uphold.

“Such expensive tours, even if personally funded, are unjustifiable and contradict the standards of a modest lifestyle expected from government officials,” President Pezeshkian said in the decree.
