Sharjah Deputy Ruler inaugurates homes for widows in Sri Lanka

Jordan Daily – Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, visited Al Rahma Women’s Village in Sri Lanka, a community supporting widows, orphans and their families.

During the tour, Sheikh Sultan inaugurated 40 new houses for widows, inspected training rooms where women learn sewing skills, and visited classrooms providing education for orphaned children. He also reviewed healthcare services at the village’s medical centre and met children in the garden area, a statement said.

The Deputy Ruler stressed the importance of empowering widows and orphans with education and skills to enable them to contribute to society. His visit concluded at the two-storey village mosque, which serves both men and women.

Sheikh Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Charity International (SCI), thanked Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, for supporting projects abroad, and praised Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed’s presence in Sri Lanka to oversee SCI initiatives. These include laying the foundation stone for Al-Reeh Al-Morsalah Village and launching a mobile medical clinic.

Since 2012, SCI has established six villages in Sri Lanka, providing 195 homes, two Quran memorisation centres, one school, three healthcare centres and three artesian wells, benefiting more than 10,000 people.

Sheikh Sultan was accompanied by Sheikh Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of SCI ; Khalid Nasser Al Ameri, UAE Ambassador to Sri Lanka; Mohamed Hassan Khalaf, Director General of Sharjah Broadcasting Authority; Tariq Saeed Allay, Director General of Sharjah Government Media Bureau; Hassan Yaqoub Al Mansouri, Secretary-General of Sharjah Media Council; along with senior officials, TV channel directors from SBA, and representatives of charitable organisations in Sri Lanka.
