Jordan Daily – Border guards have been engaged in armed clashes with large groups of smugglers trying to cross the northern border from Syria since early Saturday, a military source said.
The source said the clashes have resulted in injuries and arrests among the smugglers, as well as the seizure of large quantities of drugs and weapons.
The smugglers have been using force to try to breach the border, which is under the responsibility of the Jordanian Eastern Command ,and the armed groups were driven back into Syria.
The source added that the number of such incidents have increased in the past few days, and that the armed forces are determined to protect national security and prevent any infiltration or smuggling attempts.
