Starlink conducts satellite service trials in Jordan, eyes April launch

By : JD

Jordan Daily – Jordan’s Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) is supporting Starlink’s ongoing satellite service trials in the country, as the company prepares to launch commercial operations in April, TRC Chairman Bassam Al-Sarhan said.

During a meeting with Starlink representatives, Al-Sarhan reaffirmed the regulator’s commitment to fostering strategic partnerships with major global technology firms to enhance the local telecom sector and improve service quality.

The three-month trial, which began last week under the direct supervision of the TRC, is the third of its kind globally. Starlink selected Jordan for the test due to its strategic location and strong technical and regulatory expertise, company representatives said.

The trial, conducted in coordination with the TRC and the Special Communications Commission, involves monitoring satellite signal coverage, assessing potential interference with other networks, and evaluating service quality. It also aims to optimize satellite positioning and radio signals to improve ground coverage, increase internet speeds by more than fivefold, and expand potential user capacity eightfold.

Starlink, a subsidiary of SpaceX, has been expanding its satellite internet services globally, aiming to provide high-speed connectivity in remote and underserved areas.
