Syria probes video of hospital staff execution in Sweida

Jordan Daily – Syria’s Interior Ministry said on Monday it is investigating a “painful” video circulating on social media that purportedly shows an execution inside the National Hospital in the southern province of Sweida.

In a statement, the ministry condemned the “heinous act” in the strongest terms and vowed to hold the perpetrators accountable, “regardless of their affiliations.” It said those responsible would be referred to the judiciary to face justice.

The ministry said Interior Minister had instructed Assistant for Security Affairs Maj. Gen. Abdel Qader Al-Tahan to personally oversee the investigation to ensure the suspects are identified and arrested “as quickly as possible.”

The footage, which has sparked widespread outrage in Syria, appears to show an armed group executing a hospital staff member by firing squad in one of the facility’s corridors. Several other staff members are seen kneeling on the ground in front of men in military uniforms, one wearing the insignia of the Internal Security Forces.

The video shows a scuffle between the victim and one of the gunmen, after which two assailants open fire, killing him instantly. His body is then dragged away, leaving bloodstains visible on the hospital floor.
