Jordan Daily – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who was ousted from power last year, has been discharged from a hospital on the outskirts of Moscow after treatment for suspected poisoning, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Wednesday.
The Britain-based monitoring group cited a source as saying Assad’s health was stable following the incident. Only his brother and former presidential affairs minister Mansour Azzam were allowed to visit him during his stay in hospital, the source added.
According to the source, Assad was poisoned in what appeared to be an attempt to embarrass the Russian government and create suspicions that Moscow had tried to eliminate him.
Assad has not appeared in public or in media reports since December 8, 2024, when his government collapsed. Russian authorities have since granted him and his family political asylum.
