Jordan Daily – Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a short film titled “IC You” on Monday, urging the United Nations to grant Taiwan a voice at the upcoming 79th General Assembly.
The film highlights Taiwan’s technological expertise and its role as a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing, calling for the U.N. to recognize the country’s contributions and include it in U.N. activities, mechanisms, and meetings.
The narrative follows a young woman attending an international high-tech workshop in Taiwan. With help from a local partner, she explores the crucial role semiconductors play in everyday life.
Taiwan produces over 90% of the world’s advanced semiconductors, and its companies are expected to begin mass production of 2-nanometer chips within a year. The country is also working toward a net-zero transition and contributing to the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 9, which focuses on industry, innovation, and infrastructure, and SDG 11 for sustainable cities and communities.
The film concludes with the slogan “Chip In With Taiwan,” emphasizing Taiwan’s strength in chip manufacturing and underscoring the country’s commitment to global economic and trade partnerships. The play on words highlights Taiwan’s efforts to fulfill its international obligations and act as a positive force in the world, according to the foreign ministry.
The short film was released ahead of the U.N. General Assembly, which began Sept. 10 in New York. Taiwan’s foreign ministry is calling on countries to support its participation in U.N. specialized agencies, saying Taiwan can help advance shared global values, peace, and prosperity.
