‘Taste of Indonesia’ showcases culinary, cultural heritage at Amman’s Souk Jara

Jordan Daily – The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Amman hosted a culinary and cultural bazaar titled “Taste of Indonesia” at Souk Jara, one of Amman’s most popular cultural markets. The event served as a platform to showcase Indonesia’s rich culinary and cultural heritage to the Jordanian public and the international community.

Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Dr. Emad Hijazeen, attended the opening ceremony and enjoyed live performances of traditional Indonesian dances, including the Balinese Dance and the Saman Dance, performed with enthusiasm by Indonesian diaspora artists residing in Jordan.

The bazaar featured a variety of Indonesian delicacies such as chicken satay, batagor, and meatballs, along with well-known Indonesian products like Indomie noodles, sambal, and sweet soy sauce. These dishes and products were prepared and presented by Indonesian students and community members living in Jordan, eager to introduce authentic Indonesian flavors to visitors.

Indonesian Ambassador to Jordan, Ade Padmo Sarwono, emphasized that the event was part of Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy efforts. “Taste of Indonesia is not only about food; it is about strengthening people-to-people connections through culture,” the Ambassador remarked during his opening speech.

Souk Jara, a vibrant open-air cultural market, is renowned for featuring artistic and cultural expressions from around the world. The collaboration between the Indonesian Embassy and Souk Jara marks an important step in expanding Indonesia’s cultural presence in Jordan.

Open to the public, the “Taste of Indonesia” event is expected to become an annual celebration aimed at further strengthening the bonds of friendship between Indonesia and Jordan through cultural exchange, the statement noted.
