Jordan Daily – Thailand donated 3 million Baht ($80,000) on Wednesday to the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) to help provide food, water and medical supplies to Gaza, where a humanitarian crisis has worsened after weeks of conflict.
The donation was announced at the office of UNRWA in Jordan, where Thailand’s ambassador to Jordan Supark Prongthura and deputy chief of mission Adisak Jantatum met with Director of UNRWA Affairs Olaf Becker.
“We are grateful for Thailand’s contribution at this critical time,” Becker said. “It will allow us to purchase water, food and medical supplies urgently required by the population in the Gaza Strip.”
He said Thailand had been a steadfast and reliable supporter of UNRWA since 1978 and had recently pledged $200,000 for the agency’s core programmes from 2022 to 2026.
Prongthura said Thailand was deeply concerned about the situation in Gaza and the impact on innocent civilians.
“Our contribution aims to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people who are in urgent need of food, water, energy, medical supplies, and shelter in Gaza,” he said.
He also commended UNRWA for its humanitarian work in Gaza and expressed condolences for the UNRWA staff who had lost their lives while carrying out their duties.
UNRWA launched a 90-day flash appeal to provide life-saving support to Palestine Refugees in the besieged Strip.
