Jordan Daily – The U.S. Embassy in Amman announced a change in leadership on Saturday as Chargé d’Affaires Rohit Nepal handed over duties to his successor, Peter Shea.
Nepal concluded a three-year tour in Jordan and will assume a new assignment in Washington, the embassy said in a statement.
Shea, a career diplomat and member of the Senior Foreign Service, was most recently a senior advisor in the State Department’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs. His previous postings include Istanbul, Cairo, Baghdad, Moscow, and three temporary assignments as Acting Deputy Chief of Mission in Beirut.
He is returning to Amman, where he served as Deputy Political Counsellor from 2013 to 2016. Shea has also led the Office of Iraq Affairs in Washington and coordinated NATO-Afghanistan operations.
Before joining the Foreign Service, Shea worked as a national security consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton. He holds degrees from Georgetown University and The American University.
A native of Worcester, Massachusetts, Shea arrives in Amman with his wife and three children.
