Jordan Daily – Former Deputy Prime Minister Marwan Muasher said the current approach of the U.S. administration remains unclear and difficult to analyze, citing the transformation of the Republican Party.
“The Republican Party, as it was known in the past, no longer exists. The U.S. administration has veered sharply to the right, but this right-wing stance is not yet clearly defined,” Muasher said a panel discussion. He added that the Democratic Party has also undergone significant changes.
Muasher argued that President Donald Trump’s proposed plan for the forced displacement of Palestinians is now unrealistic. He credited King Abdullah’s recent diplomatic efforts with influencing a shift in the U.S. stance on the issue. “The rhetoric surrounding displacement has changed after the King’s visit to Washington,” he noted.
Despite this shift, Muasher questioned which U.S. policy on Gaza and the West Bank would ultimately prevail. He said that while Trump’s displacement plan appears to have faded, the so-called Arab vision for the Palestinian issue is also becoming less prominent.
Muasher expressed concern over reports suggesting that some Arab countries are working against the resolutions adopted at the recent Arab League summit in Cairo. “As a political observer, I am not aware of a genuine consensus among Arab states on the summit’s decisions,” he said.
