Jordan Daily – Jordan has secured the lowest increase in U.S. tariffs among countries with free trade agreements or trade surpluses with the United States, Industry and Trade Minister Yarub Al-Qudah said on Friday.
Following months of negotiations, Jordan’s exports to the U.S. will face an additional 15% tariff- significantly lower than the 15% to 40% range imposed on other countries, according to Al-Qudah.
“This differential gives Jordan a competitive edge,” he said, noting that key Jordanian products now enjoy a relative price advantage in the U.S. market compared to those from rival exporters.
Jordan’s original tariff rate under its Free Trade Agreement with the U.S. was zero. The new 15% rate applies only to recent U.S. tariff adjustments, unlike other countries, which now face both the new and pre-existing duties.
A government source said the outcome reflects “the strength of the economic partnership” between the two countries and maintains the competitiveness of Jordanian exports despite global tariff hikes.
Jordan’s trade surplus with the U.S. had raised concerns about potential tariff impacts, but officials say the agreement limits the damage and reinforces the value of the long-standing trade pact.
