UJ President, Korean Ambassador inaugurate smart classrooms, strengthening bilateral ties

Jordan Daily – The University of Jordan (UJ) President, Professor Nathir Obeidat, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom, Kim Pil Woo, inaugurated a set of newly renovated smart classrooms in the Health and Humanities Halls complexes, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership between UJ and the Korean government.

During a meeting preceding the inauguration, Obeidat emphasized the deep-rooted ties between Jordan and Korea, expressing his gratitude for the continuous support provided by the Korean side to the university.

“This partnership has been instrumental in transforming our educational infrastructure,” he stated. “We are inspired by Korea’s experience in prioritizing education, which has driven such remarkable progress.”

Obeidat also highlighted in a statement the importance of fostering academic and cultural cooperation between UJ and Korean higher education institutions, including the exchange of expertise and academic programs.

Obeidat expressed his appreciation for Korea’s partnership and support, noting that the collaboration has contributed to a tangible transformation of UJ’s educational infrastructur, stating that 70% of UJ classrooms have been developed with Korean funding and that the university is keen to complete the remaining halls.

Ambassador Kim expressed his high expectations that the state-of-the-art smart classrooms, equipped with advanced technology through Korean government support, will significantly enhance education at UJ.

He emphasized that these classrooms will foster innovation and empower Jordanian students to excel in their respective fields. “Investing in education is the most sustainable path to prosperity, as Korea’s own experience demonstrates,” Ambassador Kim noted.

“Education and vocational training have always been a cornerstone of Korea’s support for Jordan’s socio-economic development, and we are committed to continued collaboration with UJ in this vital area.”

Both Professor Obeidat and Ambassador Kim emphasized the importance of teaching the Korean language at UJ in strengthening cultural relations between the two countries.

The President reiterated UJ’s aspiration for future joint projects, particularly the recently launched Korean Institute for Engineering Training (KIET) at the university, in cooperation with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

KIET aims to train students and specialists in critical fields such as cybersecurity, green energy, the Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence.

Ambassador Kim also praised the partnership with UJ, expressing his appreciation for the university’s role in hosting the Korean corner in the School of Foreign Languages and its support for the King Sejong Institute for Korean Language Education.

As part of his visit, Ambassador Kim toured the Korean Language Department and the King Sejong Institute, engaging with students and professors. He was accompanied by the Dean of the School and other faculty members, the statement noted.
