Jordan Daily – Jordan’s media landscape is increasingly driven by sensationalism, with some outlets amplifying minor events into major controversies through exaggerated headlines and inflated narratives, warned Helmi Alharahsheh, Chairman of the Jordanian Forum in the UK.
He said in an article seen by Jordan Daily, the trend has confused the public, triggered unnecessary outrage and pushed government institutions to respond to incomplete or misleading reports.
The shift has expanded to Facebook pages that republish the same stories with added drama despite lacking credibility, often causing reputational harm to individuals targeted in the posts.
Alharahsheh who is also the Director of Thames legal Bureau, noted that economic and political pressures may explain- but do not justify- the decline in professional standards, adding that the Cybercrime Unit continues to track cases of misinformation that distort public understanding and give trivial issues disproportionate attention.
He warned that ongoing exaggeration risks widening the gap between citizens and the government, eroding trust and diverting focus from real priorities, calling for a return to accuracy and responsibility, saying journalism must avoid manufactured drama to fulfill its role as a credible fourth estate.
