Jordan Daily – The United Kingdom has delivered 150 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Gaza this week, facilitated by Jordan, according to British Ambassador to Amman, Philip Hall. The aid, including more than 13,000 blankets and 840 family-sized tents, will be distributed by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to those in need.
In addition to the aid, a UK field hospital, funded by UK Aid and provided by the humanitarian medical NGO UK-Med, is set to arrive in Gaza this week. The adaptable facility, equipped with a pharmacy, triage area, major injuries and resuscitation unit, and maternity care tent, is expected to treat more than 100 patients daily.
The delivery coincides with an announcement from UK Foreign Secretary, The Rt Hon Lord Cameron, of an additional £10 million in aid funding for the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPTs). This brings the total UK aid contribution to over £100 million for the current financial year.
The funding will support UN agencies in delivering lifesaving aid and providing core relief items, such as tents, to the most vulnerable populations.
Hall expressed gratitude to the Jordanian Armed Forces, the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation, and officials at the King Hussein Bridge border terminal for their role in facilitating the delivery of the humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
“Jordan is doing extraordinary work to support the people of Gaza through its direct assistance, and through its support to the UN and donors trying to get aid to Gaza,” Hall said.
