UN refugee plan projects 75,000 Syrian returns from Jordan in 2026

Jordan Daily – Jordan will need about $654 million in funding in 2026 under the Regional Refugee and Resilience Plan (3RP), part of a broader $2.74 billion appeal covering Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey, the plan said.

The funding includes nearly $13 million earmarked to support voluntary returns of Syrian refugees from Jordan, with the plan projecting that around 75,000 Syrians will return home from the kingdom in 2026.

The 3RP aims to assist about 306,500 refugees, asylum seekers and stateless people in Jordan out of an estimated 415,300 in need, as well as 383,000 Jordanians from host communities out of 1.28 million requiring support.

The plan said a renewed coordination structure would be introduced in 2026 to improve efficiency as voluntary returns increase, remaining in place until refugees can be fully integrated into national services. Priorities in Jordan include life-saving assistance for the most vulnerable, food and cash aid, and shelter services in camps, alongside protection, gender equality and inclusion of people with disabilities.

According to the plan, voluntary returns from Jordan rose sharply in 2025 following political change in Syria in late 2024, exceeding 175,000 returns compared with about 50,000 between 2018 and 2024. Returns are expected to slow in 2026 due to ongoing insecurity in parts of Syria and limited access to basic services.

The plan warned that declining funding risks undermining protection gains, even as needs remain high. It said the Syrian crisis remains one of the world’s largest displacement crises, with about 11 million Syrians forcibly displaced and more than 10.8 million people across Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey expected to need humanitarian or development assistance by 2026.
