UN Security Council to deliberate on full membership for Palestine

By : JD

Jordan Daily -The United Nations Security Council is set to convene on Monday to deliberate on the full membership of the State of Palestine, under the agenda “Admission of New Members”.

The State of Palestine has submitted a letter to the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General regarding this matter. The Arab Group, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement have endorsed the letter.

Currently, Palestine enjoys the status of an “observer state”. As an observer, it does not have the right to vote on resolutions adopted by the General Assembly, nor to compete for non-permanent membership in the Security Council.
