Jordan Daily – Fewer Syrian refugees went back to their war-torn homeland in 2023, with a 25% drop from the previous year, UNHCR data showed on Monday.
The UN refugee agency said 37,552 Syrians returned from five neighboring countries – Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey and Iraq – where most of the 5.6 million Syrian refugees live.
That was down from 50,792 in 2022 and well below the peak of 94,971 in 2019.
Jordan saw a slight increase in the number of returnees, from 4,013 in 2022 to 4,383 in 2023, while the other four countries recorded declines.
