Jordan Daily – The U.N. refugee agency (UNHCR) has shut two registration centres in northern Jordan as part of cost-cutting measures and will reduce outreach sessions on refugee returns, the agency said in a statement seen by Jordan Daily.
The Irbid Registration Centre closed in July, following the shutdown of the Mafraq facility a month earlier, leaving the Amman centre as the sole location for refugee registration in the country.
Between January and June this year, UNHCR held 40 information sessions on returns, reaching more than 1,100 refugees. The agency said it would scale back the frequency of such gatherings to save money, while seeking alternative ways to answer return-related queries from refugee communities.
From Dec. 8, 2024 to July 31, 2025, about 125,000 refugees registered with UNHCR returned to Syria from Jordan, including 28,000 in July alone, according to the agency.
