US, Germany lead donors for Jordan’s plan to help Syrian refugees

Jordan Daily – Jordan’s plan to cope with the Syrian crisis received $506 million in funding this year, less than a quarter of its $2.2 billion target, the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation said on Wednesday.

The United States and Germany are the top donors, providing $112 million and $94 million respectively, followed by the European Union with $73 million, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

The plan, which covers various sectors such as health, education, water and sanitation, aims to support both Syrian refugees and host communities in Jordan, which has been strained by the influx of more than 1.3 million Syrians since 2011.

About 660,000 Syrians are registered as refugees with the UNHCR in Jordan, but many more live in the country without official status. Jordan says the actual number of Syrians on its soil is more than double the registered figure.
