Very cold weather for coming days

Jordan Daily – Most parts of the Kingdom are expected to witness very cold weather conditions on Sunday night and Monday, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).

Amid the prevailing weather conditions, parts of Maan’s Shoubak and Al Naqab areas witnessed snowfall on Saturday evening.

Aqaba and the Dead Sea area will also witness cold conditions, according to the JMD forecast.

The JMD warned of frost formation at Monday early morning and night in several regions, accompanied by moderate to brisk winds, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Meanwhile, the Water Ministry said that the recent wet weather has supplied the Kingdom’s main dams with about 1.5 million cubic metres (mcm), increasing the total storage to 89mcm, which constitute 26.3 per cent of their total capacity of 336.4mcm.

The recent weather conditions increased the rainfall volumes by 28.1 per cent, since the beginning of the season until Saturday morning, from the long-term annual average of 8.1 billion cubic metres, the Water Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

The highest rainfall was registered in Amman’s Bayader Wadi Al Seer area, with 25.8 millimetres (mm), the ministry said. Rainwater in the valleys needs 24 to 48 hours to reach dams, the statement said.

On precipitation averages, the ministry’s stations showed that Amman received 15.3mm, Balqa 12.3mm, Madaba 14.9mm, Zarqa 3.4mm, Jerash 6.3mm, while stations in Tafileh, Maan and Aqaba did not register any amounts.
