Jordan Daily – Visitor numbers to Wadi Rum have dropped by 71% in the first four months of this year, with a total of 61,254 visitors, most of them foreigners, according to official data from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
The data shows that the number of foreign visitors reached 47,459, while Arab visitors were only 760. Jordanian visitors accounted for 13,035 of the total.
Looking at the nationalities of the foreign visitors, Dutch nationals topped the list with 11,490 visitors, while New Zealand nationals were at the bottom with 1,329 visitors.
The sharp decline in visitor numbers compared to the same period last year, when the site attracted 210,444 visitors, reflects the ongoing challenges facing the tourism sector.
