WFP to make cuts in food assistance for Syrian refugees
Jordan Daily – The World Food Program WFP has announced a reduction in the monthly assistance provided to vulnerable households in Jordan who are residing outside refugee camps. This reduction will affect 75% of the total 465,000 refugees who currently receive monthly support. The reason behind this decision is a shortage of funding.
According to the World Food Program, the value of assistance for the most vulnerable refugee families outside the camps will be decreased to 15 dinars per person per month, compared to the previous amount of 23 dinars per month.
For refugee families outside the camps categorized as having a moderate need for food assistance, the assistance they receive, which was previously 15 dinars per person per month, will be reduced to 10 dinars per person per month.
However, the value of food assistance for all registered refugee families residing inside the camps will remain unchanged at 23 dinars per person per month, as long as the World Food Program continues to receive adequate funding.
It’s important to note that the current financial requirements for implementing projects associated with the World Food Program’s operations in Jordan amount to 230 million dollars for this year. However, only 109 million dollars have been secured as of May,emphasizing the need for additional funding.
