Jordan Daily- The World Food Programme (WFP) has confirmed its pressing need for $41 million in funding to continue providing vital food aid in Jordan until the end of this year.
Despite recent reductions in aid values to beneficiary refugees and the exclusion of around 50,000 individuals from monthly assistance, the WFP stresses the criticality of obtaining the necessary funds to maintain its operations.
In its monthly report, the program warns that without securing the required funding, it will be forced to implement further cutbacks on assistance to beneficiaries residing outside the camps starting from September. Moreover, it may extend these reductions to refugees residing in the camps, as of October.
According to the WFP’s plan for the food aid project for refugees in Jordan, the operational requirements for the current year amount to $196.1 million, aimed at providing essential assistance to 465,000 beneficiaries throughout the year. Between June and December 2023, the program requires approximately $123 million.
Due to recent adjustments, including reducing the value of aid and excluding approximately 50,000 individuals from assistance, the funding requirements have been reduced to $41 million.
The WFP has already been compelled to reduce the value of monthly aid by one-third for all 119,000 Syrian refugees residing in the Zaatari and Azraq camps. As of August, these refugees will receive a reduced cash transfer of $21 (JD15 ) per person monthly , down from the previous amount of $32 (JD 23 ).
