Jordan Daily – Dr. Khalil Al-Abdallat, Director of the Human Rights Unit at the Prime Minister’s Office, affirmed the role of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II in enhancing the role of youth in the field of human rights and their meaningful involvement in creating peaceful societies.
This came during his opening of a seminar on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism for human rights in Aqaba city today, Thursday, attended by representatives of civil society institutions and youth.
Al-Abdallat stated that Security Council Resolution 2250, unanimously adopted in December 2015, came at the initiative of Jordan and with the support of His Royal Highness Crown Prince . The resolution addresses the issue of youth from the perspective of international security and peace, recognizing the efforts of youth in peacebuilding.
He pointed to Jordan’s firm commitment to enhancing the human rights system at the national level, emphasizing the importance of the participation of all members of society in this process, including civil society institutions and youth. Al-Abdallat said, “The Universal Periodic Review mechanism for human rights represents a powerful tool for promoting a culture of respect for human rights at the national level, and allows countries the opportunity to showcase their achievements in this field, and receive recommendations from other member states on how to improve their human rights record.”
He added, “Jordan is proud of its distinguished record in interacting with the UPR mechanism for human rights, having submitted its latest report in Geneva in 2024, which was greatly appreciated by the international community.”
The seminar is part of the government’s efforts to promote a culture of human rights and raise awareness about it throughout the Kingdom, believing in the importance of respecting human dignity and basic rights in achieving sustainable development and prosperity.
