Jordan Daily -  The United States and Iran have exchanged messages in recent days despite the ongoing war between Washington, Israel and Tehran, Axios reported on Monday, citing U.S. officials and a source familiar with the matter.

The report said U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi communicated through text messages, with the contact initiated by the Iranian side. The exchanges reportedly focused on possible ways to end the conflict that began after U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran late last month.

A U.S. official quoted in the report said Washington was “not talking” to Iran, although messages had been passed between the two sides.

Iranian officials denied that any recent direct contact had taken place. Araghchi said his last communication with Witkoff occurred before the war began.

If confirmed, the exchanges would represent the first known communication channel between U.S. and Iranian officials since the conflict erupted.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that Iran appeared interested in reaching a deal but added that Washington was uncertain which officials in Tehran had the authority to negotiate during the war.
