Jordan summons Dutch Ambassador over right-wing extremist’s remarks

By : News Editor

Jordan Daily – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates summoned the Dutch ambassador in Amman Harry Verweij, on Thursday evening to deliver a stern protest message to his government.

This action followed remarks made by Dutch right-wing extremist Geert Wilders, which align with the condemned decision by the Israeli Knesset on Wednesday. The decision seeks to deny the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to an independent, sovereign state on their national soil. Wilders’ comments reflect a racist stance that erroneously suggests the Palestinian issue can be resolved at Jordan’s expense.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Dr. Sufian Qudah stated that the Dutch ambassador in Amman was instructed to immediately convey the protest message to his government. The message demands that the Dutch government clearly condemn these statements, which contradict the friendly and mutually respectful relations between the two countries.

Ambassador Qudah emphasized that the incitement expressed by this racist parliamentarian holds no legal value or effect, constitutes a violation of international law, and embodies a culture of racial hatred that must be combated.

Wilders posted on his account on “X” using the hashtag “Jordan is Palestine,” claiming, “This decision (the Knesset decision) is truly historic.”

He added, “History teaches us that the real and only Palestinian state is Jordan. Not Judea and Samaria, but the current Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.”
