Jordan Daily – Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan on Sunday unveiled new details about a major urban development project, a new city to be built near the capital, Amman, and the city of Zarqa, aimed at addressing population pressures and housing costs.

In his speech to Parliament, Hassan said the new city, to be located on state-owned land within the Amman Governorate, had become an urgent necessity. The project is designed to ease the burden of overcrowding, traffic congestion, and high living costs in the capital, while providing better services and infrastructure.

“The government is moving forward with the planning and preparation of this project, which will offer opportunities for young people, meeting their aspirations and needs for housing, employment, and a dignified life,” Hassan said.

The new city is expected to provide modern housing and services, utilizing the latest environmental and technological innovations, and will rely on alternative energy sources, he added.

Hassan also revealed that the government is preparing comprehensive plans for the city’s first phase, which will be rolled out next year. The plans will include modern transport networks and roads aimed at creating a model urban environment with economic, social, and investment benefits, both immediate and long-term.

The project, which will involve partnerships with both local and international private sectors, is set to unfold over the next decade. It is expected to have a significant economic and developmental impact across various sectors, Hassan said.
