Jordan Daily - Al-Kindi Hospital has positioned its obesity surgery center as a specialised destination for patients seeking bariatric procedures in Jordan, drawing patients from across the country and abroad as part of the kingdom’s growing medical tourism sector.
The hospital, which is one of Jordan’s major medical institutions, says it has treated patients from 75 countries, contributing to the country’s reputation as a regional healthcare destination.
The Dr. Mohammad Khrais Obesity Surgery Center at Al-Kindi Hospital is the only center in Jordan accredited by the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO), according to the hospital.
The center has specialised equipment designed to accommodate patients with severe obesity, including bariatric beds capable of supporting weights of up to 500 kg. The beds are equipped with digital scales that allow patients to be weighed while lying down, the hospital said.
Operating rooms are also equipped with specialised surgical tables designed for higher-weight patients and fitted with digital weighing systems, allowing medical teams to record a patient's weight while on the operating table.
Dr. Mohammad Khrais, who specialises in bariatric and laparoscopic surgery, performs a range of minimally invasive obesity procedures at the center.
These include laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, Single Anastomosis Sleeve Ileal bypass (SASI), gastric bypass, mini gastric bypass, the Butterfly procedure, the Smart Capsule, laparoscopic gastric banding and intragastric balloon procedures.
The center says its specialised infrastructure is intended to provide patients with severe obesity with access to surgical care and equipment adapted to their specific needs, while supporting Jordan's broader role in regional medical tourism.
