Aqaba’s GIA Apparels Factory creates 700 jobs with new $7M facility in Al-Quweira

Jordan Daily - Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Chief Commissioner, Nayef Al-Fayez, visited the GIA Apparels Industry factory in Aqaba on Thursday.

During the visit, Al-Fayez emphasized that ASEZA's 2024-2028 strategic plan is focused on enhancing the investment climate and boosting Aqaba’s global competitiveness by streamlining procedures and offering incentives to investors.These efforts aim to position Aqaba as a global logistics hub.

Al-Fayez highlighted that this vision aligns with Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II's focus on fostering future-oriented and diverse investment opportunities to attract major projects to Jordan, with Aqaba playing a key role in this expansion.

"Our policy pillars focus on equal treatment for both Jordanian and foreign investors, protecting investments in a stable, secure environment, and ensuring fair competition. We aim to foster high-quality projects and sectors that contribute to economic growth while also promoting green economy transitions," Al-Fayez said. He also noted the importance of providing highly skilled Jordanian labor to meet market needs.

Accompanied by the Commissioner For Economic Development and Tourism Engineer Hamza Al-Haj Hassan, Al-Fayez toured the factory’s facilities and briefed by GIA Apparels Industry factory General Manager, Rohin Nambiar who explained that the factory spans 540,000 square meters of developed land and operates under the umbrella of "Classic Fashion Apparel Industry LTD CO."

Nambiar explained that the company produces garments for more than 10 international brands, such as Walmart, Adidas, GAP, Old Navy, American Eagle, Under Armour, and JCPenney. With 20 factories in Jordan employing over 30,000 workers, the company’s exports make up about 38% of Jordan’s total garment exports, amounting to nearly $800 million.



He noted GIA Apparels Industry factory is a $100 million project comprising three factories and auxiliary units, such as printing, embroidery, and a lab. The facility employs 700 Jordanians and trains dozens of workers each month in coordination with ASEZA.


With a daily production capacity of 450,000 garments, the factory complex includes two garment factories, a fabric warehouse, administrative offices, employee housing, and a logistics center, he added.


Nambiar also announced plans for a $50 million expansion and praised Aqaba’s stable, investor-friendly environment. He revealed that the company would further expand in the Al-Quweira Industrial Zone by building a new factory, set for completion in 14 months at a cost of $7 million, which will create 700 jobs for Jordanians.
