Jordan Daily - His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday received International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) President Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, according to a royal court statement.
During a meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace, His Majesty expressed appreciation for the ICRC’s humanitarian role and efforts to alleviate the suffering of those affected by war in conflict zones.
The King also emphasised the importance of utilising dialogue and diplomacy to resolve conflicts in the region.
For her part, the ICRC president highlighted the need to protect civilians in conflicts, commending Jordan’s vital efforts, led by His Majesty, to bring stability to the region.
The meeting also touched on the High-Level Conference on Humanity in War, which Jordan is set to host this year in partnership with the ICRC and a number of countries as part of the Global Initiative to Galvanise Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law.
Her Royal Highness Princess Rym Ali, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh attended the meeting.
