Jordan Daily - A Royal Decree has been issued, appointing Bushra Abu Shahout as a member of the Independent Election Commission’s board of commissioners, as of 11 June 2026.

Abu Shahout brings extensive experience in electoral governance, institutional development and public policy to her new role. She previously served as Director of Policies and Institutional Development at Jordan's Independent Election Commission (IEC), where she contributed to electoral reform initiatives, strategic planning and efforts to strengthen the commission's institutional framework. Her work focused on enhancing electoral processes, developing policies and fostering cooperation with national and international stakeholders.

More recently, Abu Shahout served as Assistant Representative for Gender-Responsive Governance at UN Women Jordan, leading programmes aimed at advancing women's political participation and inclusive governance. 

Throughout her career, she has worked closely with government institutions, civil society organizations and international partners on democratic governance, electoral integrity and capacity-building initiatives, establishing herself as a specialist in electoral affairs and political reform.
