Jordan Daily - The ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Jordan, Kim Pil-woo, praised Jordan’s humanitarian role and longstanding ties with Seoul as he hosted what he said would be his final National Day reception in the kingdom.
Speaking at the reception, Kim thanked Jordanian officials, diplomats, parliamentarians, business leaders, civil society representatives and members of the Korean community for attending the event.
He highlighted during the reception attended by Prince Mired bin Ra'ad and Minister Nancy Namrouqa Korea’s National Foundation Day, known as Gaecheonjeol, celebrated on Oct. 3, saying it reflected a founding principle of broadly benefiting humanity and helping others.
“That is neither an evangelical mission nor elitism. It’s about humanity,” Kim said, linking the principle to the Republic of Korea’s foreign policy priorities of peace, development and human rights.
Kim said Jordan represented a strong example of the same values, citing the kingdom’s history of welcoming and supporting people from neighboring countries in times of need.
“Jordan has always welcomed and supported neighbors in times of need. It’s a global example of humanity and generosity,” he said.
He noted the Republic of Korea and Jordan, despite their geographical distance, had developed more than six decades of friendship, cooperation and cultural exchanges based on shared values and mutual respect.
Kim also announced that the reception would be his last as ambassador, although he expects to remain in Jordan for about two more months.
Recalling his arrival in Amman in 2024, Kim said Jordan had “captured my heart” through its people, food, landscapes, weather and cultural heritage.
“Leaving this amazing country breaks my heart. I’m gonna leave a piece of my heart behind,” he said.
