Jordan Daily - Taiwan is seeking to deepen economic, technological and humanitarian cooperation with Jordan, its representative in the kingdom said, highlighting opportunities in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, renewable energy and water management.

Ali Yang, representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Jordan, made the remarks during a celebration marking the 115th anniversary of Taiwan.

Despite geographical distance, Taiwan and Jordan share a commitment to peace, human dignity and the rule of law, Yang said, describing the two sides as natural partners with complementary strengths in education, technology, innovation and small and medium-sized enterprises.

Bilateral trade reached nearly $200 million last year, Yang said. Eight Taiwanese textile factories operate in Jordan, contributing to local employment and accounting for about 6% of the kingdom's total exports, he added.

Taiwan also sees Jordan's potential as a regional technology hub, with Taiwanese specialists and academics visiting the country this year to promote scientific and educational exchanges. A leading Taiwanese technology company opened a branch office in Amman last month, Yang noted.

Taiwan's economy has benefited from strong demand for artificial intelligence-related industries, Yang said, citing 2025 trade volume of more than $1.12 trillion and gross domestic product of $884 billion. He said the economy grew 8.7% last year and ranked fourth in the world in competitiveness in the 2025 IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook.

Yang also stressed Taiwan's role in humanitarian assistance, including support for refugees, vulnerable families and emergency relief efforts for people in Gaza, in cooperation with the Jordanian government and local and international non-governmental organisations.

He praised Jordan for hosting millions of refugees and thanked partners involved in humanitarian initiatives.
