Bank al Etihad, UNICEF renew collaboration to empower youth in climate advocacy

Jordan Daily – Bank al Etihad and UNICEF have renewed their partnership for the third consecutive year to support youth-led climate action in Jordan, aiming to boost climate change awareness and foster green employment opportunities.

According to a statement, the initiative will engage 100,000 young people across Jordan, educating them on how to advocate for climate action. Additionally, 3,000 individuals, half of whom are young women, will take part in capacity-building programs aimed at improving their skills for accessing green jobs and sustainable employment.

“At Bank al Etihad, we recognize the crucial role youth play in tackling climate challenges. Through our partnership with UNICEF, we are committed to helping them build the skills and confidence needed to develop sustainable solutions that benefit all of Jordan,” said Nadia Al Saeed, CEO of Bank al Etihad.

Jordan faces significant climate-related challenges, with children and youth particularly vulnerable. However, they also have the potential to drive transformative change with the right support, according to UNICEF’s Jordan Representative, Philippe Duamelle.

“In Jordan, youth are eager to contribute to the country’s sustainable development. This partnership equips them to become climate advocates in their communities and beyond,” Duamelle said.

Bank al Etihad’s support will allow young people to amplify their voices at major climate events, such as the Local Conference of Youth on Climate Change 2024 (LCOY), and participate in global networks, including the 29th session of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Azerbaijan later this year.
